A Good Read

peaceful warrior

Every now and then you come across a good book that is not only enjoyable to read but carries a positive message to walk away with.  That is how I feel about Dan Millman’s book Way of the Peaceful Warrior.  It was an interesting book which I managed to read over the course of a weekend (the drive to and from London helped) – I haven’t been able to do that since Fifty Shades ;)!!

I won’t tell you about the story but I will tell you about the message it gives – or at least the message I took away from it.  Live in the NOW.  There is no better or more important time than the present.  Too  many of us are worried about the future and creating unnecessary stresses in our  lives while others are stuck in the past and allowing past actions of others or even ourselves to cripple us from moving forward.  Unfortunately, there are also some who are guilty of doing both – being stuck in the past while stressing about the future.  You know what happens when you do this?  You forget to live in the present and life just passes you by.  Each day passes and you’re just as miserable, stressed, bored, or even angry as you were yesterday, and waiting for some miracle to happen that will suddenly change the way you feel.  Guess what?  The only thing in this world capable of changing the way you feel is YOU!

It’s not always easy and I am guilty of having to constantly remind myself of it as well but it’s important to know that a lot of the stress we create in our lives is self-inflicted.  We have no control over tomorrow and we can’t reclaim yesterday so why do so many of us try so hard to do so??  The only thing we truly have control over is right now…maybe not what is happening in the world right now, or to what is happening with our next door neighbour right this very moment or even this bitter cold front we are faced with this winter, but how we are feeling right now is completely our own doing.  No one else can control how we feel.  How we choose to act or react to something is all within our own control.  For a control freak like me, that’s pretty enlightening ;)!

So if you’re looking for a good book to read I strongly suggest picking up Dan Millman’s Way of the Peaceful Warrior.  Even if you’re not necessarily looking for a book to read but need a change in your life.  Need a fresh start.  Why not start here?  You have nothing to lose and so much to gain!  It’s a story that changes lives.  I know because it’s changing mine right now…

Until next time,

Have a fit and fabulous day!!
